Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale – "The WTF Beer"

Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour AleNote: Enjoyed on March 19, 2009.

I’m going to start this review with: WTF?!?! Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale is hands-down, the weirdest beer I’ve ever had. And yes, this one tops even the smoke-beer I reviewed.

It’s light, so it’s not hoppy or anything. The taste is quiet unique. The label says that is has a sweet-sour flavor, which is true. I liken it to a vinegar taste. Now, before you pass judgment, this is a light vinegar flavor, not a gross one. My grandmother used to make a delicious stewed spinach, which as cooked in vinegar. This beer kind of reminds me of that taste.

This one was an interesting excursion, however I don’t think I would buy this again. I would certainly recommend that you try it once, just because it is so different.
