Weyerbacher Merry Monks’ Belgian Style Golden Ale

Weyerbacher Merry Monks Belgian Style Golden Ale
Weyerbacher Merry Monks’ Belgian Style Golden Ale smells heavily of banana. The smell is easily detectable even a few feet from the glass. When you get the nose closer, you pick up some bready and spicy smells. Alcohol is present in the aroma.

The color is light yellow. I still can’t believe that it is 9.3% ABV. I definitely have a pre-existing assumption that light colored beer can’t have a high alcohol content.

The flavors are complex. Sweet from beginning to finish. Banana is the main flavor, but not overwhelming. There are other flavors here, but I just can’t put words to what I’m tasting. Banana bread may be the best comparison I can give. Once again, an incredibly sweet beer has earned my affection!

I’m finding that Weyerbacher goes out of their way to make full flavored, unique brews. The downside, I suppose, is that your average Joe might not be prepared to enjoy such brews. I speak from experience, as a few months ago, I doubt I would have enjoyed these beers. I only hope that Joe is reading this blog and decides to give this stuff a real shot.

P.S. If you’re bored, visit Weyerbacher on their website.

This stuff is awesome! I live about 45 minutes from the Weyerbacher brewery, and I plan on taking advantage of one of their Saturday tours real soon.
