Last weekend we headed over to Sean & Kerry’s house for a spaghetti dinner. I was in charge of the beer for the evening, so I ran into Gordon’s liquor in Waltham. I was greeted by a Redhook Brewery rep as I walked in. They were given out samples of a few of Redhook’s brews. I chatted it up for a few minutes and tried what they were offering. If I agreed to buy Redhook, I would get two free glasses and a Widmer bottle opener…so I obliged and picked up a 12 of the Sunrye Summer Ale.
Turns out, the Sunrye is one of Sean’s all time favorite beers. He even had it at his wedding a few years back.
The beer looks and smells a bit like cider. My wife even said it smelled good; she never thinks beer smells good!
The flavor is pretty straight forward. Determined by the three of us to be “beer flavored”…nothing specific such as wheat or banana was showing up. All-in-all, while it doesn’t bring any uniqueness to the table, it makes for a delicious summer beer.
