Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Last night was a blast. Went up to Nashua, NH to work on my website design with my friend Johnson. What do you think of the new banner? He’s also designing a logo, watermarks, and business cards for me. I’m SOOOO stoked. Looking forward to the weekend. Apple picking with my little brother and the wife on Saturday, Patriots viewing party at my house on Sunday. Once again, nothing but goodness. OH, and on top of all that, I do believe that we’ve FINALLY beaten the flea infestation. 2 months and $300 later. Whatever…they are gone!!!

Tonight I’m reviewing the 120 minute IPA from Dogfish Head. It’s been in my fridge for a few months. I’ve been working up the courage to try this 20% ABV beast. The beer’s reputation precedes itself.

First impression – HOLY HEAD BATMAN. Almost screwed this one up (4 inches of head that almost over flowed). Left an excellent lace though!

Second impression – HOLY AROMA BATMAN. Sourish smelling. Fermented fruit. Not particularly appealing.

Third impression – (No more Batman references) To say the flavor is full would be an understatement. Two things surprise me: #1 – The taste is light-years better than the smell, and #2 – You’d never guess that there’s a ton of alcohol. Nothing like any IPA I’ve tried, that’s for sure. When I hear IPA I think hoppy. The 120 has zero hoppiness. Sweet front to back, beginning to end. I can’t figure out what makes up the sweetness though…definitely fruity.

You know me, I love the sweet beers. This puppy is bordering on too sweet, even for me. Definitely a dessert beer. 450 calories makes it a certified dessert! My Twitter bud Curefont pointed that out…thanks a lot. :)

This turned out to be one of my longer posts. I guess a complex beer requires a complex description.
