Dogfish Head Punkin

Dogfish Head PunkinJust got back from the Bollywood grill. Had some excellent Indian food. Now it’s time to relax with a bottle of Dogfish Head Punkin. I expect nothing but deliciousness coming my way.

Almost goofed up the pour; it would have been 2 bad pours in as many days. The DFH head snuck up on me though…real inconspicuous like. Slowed my pour just in time to save an overflow. Foam was pretty – like fluffy whipped egg white. Plenty of good lace left behind.

The smell is full of cloves, with plenty of pumpkin guts to boot.

I gotta be honest, once again I’m finding DFH to be too sophisticated in the flavor department (at least for my amateur taste buds). There are all kinds of tastes swirling around, including an after taste that hangs around for minutes. It’s giving me all kinds of time to reflect on the fact that I’m not sure what I’m tasting, other than deliciousness.

I’ll tell ya what you can’t taste, and that’s the 7% ABV.

Minutes pass…

I’m going to be straight-up. The bottle says this has brown sugar, allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg. #1: I don’t specifically taste the brown sugar, although the beer is plenty sweet. #2: I don’t even know what allspice tastes like. #3: I don’t specifically taste nutmeg. Cinnamon is present.

Regardless of my useless tongue, the beer is great. If you’ve never had it, give it a shot.
