Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Today was pretty sweet. Got up early to watch the Bruins on DVR. Then set up my new all-in-one printer. Baked some mac & cheese, hit up western MA for supper with the in-laws, back home for a 2 hour nap, a movie, and now some Sopranos. Full day eh? It’s 11pm. My doctor would tell me I shouldn’t be eating or drinking this close to bedtime, but I’m cracking this Wychwood Hobgoblin and then eating some leftover Indian food! Enough about me though…TO THE BEER CAVE!
This is my second Wychwood. The first was the Scarecrow. I hope the Hobgoblin is as good!
Goblin is a dark English ale. I definitely agree that it’s dark. Opaque deep brown in color. The aroma and taste have me a bit stumped. Mouthfeel is easy: smooth and little noticeable carbonation. 5.2% ABV according to beer advocate (note: If ABV isn’t listed on the bottle, the first place I look is beeradvocate.com).
Going back to the flavors, there are two main things I pick up. #1: Caramel and #2: Roasted malts. Caramel is the dominant flavor for me. The sweetness is well balanced with hops so that you wouldn’t call it hoppy or sweet. A good beer.
