Happy Christmas Eve everyone! The wife and I took the day off and are being thoroughly lazy. I played some video games, watched Star Wars, and now we’re watching the Hangover. It’s past noon, so I’m totally reviewing a beer. More specifically, this Boulder Beer Flashback Anniversary Ale.
Sadly, I’ve run out of seasonal beers, so I grabbed something that kinda-sorta sounded festive. At first whiff, I’m excited to give this Flashback a go. It smells like a citrusy IPA, but has hints of sweetness. The label says that chocolate malts are used. Citrus + Hops + Chocolate? Go on…..
This beer is seriously brown. The head, while not large, sticks around. It’s an offwhite egg-noggish color. Speaking of nog, I highly recommend Silk brand soy based nog (a.k.a. SNOG). But I digress…
The beer is more hoppy than malty. The citrus is the main flavor, and finishes bitter with only a hint of the roasted chocolate malts. I do recommend that you let this one warm up quite a bit, as it’s pretty harsh while stone cold, and evens out as it warms.

From December 28, 2009 Denver Post: "Beer of the year: Among several deserving contenders, Boulder Beer Co's Flashback Anniversary Ale gets The Denver Post's crown as the best of 2009. Here's hoping BBC makes it a permanent offering."
This beer was brewed in the spring and summer, I'm glad to see it held up to a tasting past its code. Cheers from Boulder Beer Co.
