Boston Area Tweetup for Beer Fans

Boston Tweetup for Beer FansIn the last year I’ve gone to a couple of non-beer-related tweetups. For those of you haven’t been to one, or don’t know what they are, a tweetup is simply a gathering of people (mostly from twitter, but not limited to twits) that is centered around a particular topic. You get to meet lots of new people and you get to meet people you’ve talked to via twitter. In general, they are a lot of fun.

Sometime in February I hope to hold a beer tweetup in the Boston area.

Planning is in the initial stages, so I’m reaching out to my social media network for some advice/ideas. If you’re from the Massachusetts area, and think you would be interested, please leave a comment or send me an email to say “I’d be game!”. Before taking the next steps in planning, I need to know there will be a good turnout.

If you are interested, please also review the below list of things that I will need help deciding:

1. General Location: In the heart of Boston or just outside?

2. Specific Location: The location would preferably serve beer and food. A bar? A restaurant function room? Does anyone have a specific place in mind that might be a good fit? Maybe I’ll luck out and a restaurant/bar manager who wants to host us will be reading this!

3. Day/time: Weekday evening, weekend afternoon, or weekend evening?

I’m really looking forward to this coming together, but I need your help. I can’t wait to hear from all of you!!!

I'd vote for somewhere that serves a lot of good beer, preferably. As it is a craft beer drinkers Tweetup. I know there are lots of great places in Boston. IE: Sunset Grill & Roadhouse.

And I would def vote for a weekend evening, for sure.

Sounds great! 2 guys here are interested.

    Weekend afternoon/evening

    How about Jillian's Boston/Worcester?

Or see if some local Brewery is willing to host it, make it a quarterly event and perhaps get discount beer?!

    interested
i say have it in boston
i'd think that a bar/brew pub would be happy to host, especially if there were a large number attending. cambridge brewing company? lord hobo?

How about a pub crawl tweetup. I was in planning meeting just a couple of hours ago for one on Boylston St. We were also looking at incorporating FourSquare on the PubCrawl.

    How does that sound?

Definitely do it at a place that serves beer. What would a beer tweetup be without quality beer?

Jillians could be fun, but they don't have the best beer selection.

To be honest, most tweetups occur during the week for a fairly good reason: bars/restaurants don't want to close off or dedicate part of their space to a special event on a weekend. The weekends are when they make the most money from the general public and it hurts business to have something like that during their peak times.

I would suggest contacting a few Boston or Boston-area bars or brewpubs that are known for having great beer and discussing it with them. I would suggest starting with those that are in tune to the beer community and possibly also in tune to Twitter.

I might be interested, but it really depends on when and where it is. Providence is far enough from Boston that going to something like this may not be possible if I'm going to be drinking and it's during the week.

Oh and stop calling us "twits". The proper term for someone on Twitter is "tweep". "Twit" is a derogatory term. ;)

Count me in. My vote is Allston – Sunset Grill & Tap – on a weekend preferably, or a weekday evening.

a weekday might be less crowded.

I am definitely interested in the concept it just depends on when and where. A good beer establishment is a must especially given that we are in the dead of winter. John Harvard's Brewhouse (Framingham) and British Beer Company (Framingham and Walpole) are a couple of suggestions to consider. Driving into Boston or a nearby suburb might not be an option for everyone.

you can never go wrong with either Roadhouse or Publick House on Beacon in Brookline. Plus, they have a KILLER lobster mac & cheese which is to DIE for :)

Big City, Allston. Large Selection, and pretty decent price apps… I live in Allston, and I hate Sunset Bar and Grill, had their food and felt it was over priced… (Because White Horse next door is pretty cheap)

Other alternative to beer + dinner thing is White Horse (Mon/Tues) 1 pound Wings or Burgers $4
