Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout

Otter Creek Russian Imperial StoutThere’s one quarter down in this Patriots/Ravens playoff game. My Patriots are down 24-7 and look just awful. Kevin Faulk is the only one doing ANYTHING. The team needs to wake up and I need a strong beer to ease the pain of watching my team get decimated. This Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout that I picked up in Vermont should do the job. It’s 10.6% ABV and it’s one of those 1pt 6oz bottles.

The beer smells boozy, that’s for sure. Vanilla smells also. PATRIOTS INTERCEPT! (sorry…)

Appearance is unremarkable (see photo). Pretty standard pour for a stout. Standard dark color, standard head.

I’ve had the beer warming for 10-15 minutes, but I think I will let it continue to warm for another 10-15. It’s still pretty cold and thus kinda harsh on the tongue.

As the beer warms, it gets much sweeter. Vanilla is the primary thing I taste. Followed by caramel and some chocolate. The chocolate mostly comes out in the finish. The lingering taste you’re left with is bitter (dark) chocolate. Impressively, there is really very little liquor taste.

My hat is off to Otter Creek Brewing for brewing up a delicious Imperial.
