Kiuchi Hitachino Nest White Ale

Quick update on the dog. He appears to be a little more stable today. Still wobbly, but he didn’t fall on his ass while trying to pee like he was yesterday. We’ve still got him confined to the living room so he can’t fall down the stairs again. This evening he’s resting (see above). He does that a lot. Oh to be a dog…
Kiuchi Hitachino Nest White AleYesterday on twitter I put up a vote to see what people wanted to see me review next. The response was a little overwhelming. Many people replied and there were very little overlapping requests. I decided which to go with by looking at my collection and choosing the first one my eyes glanced over that someone recommended. Many thanks to the following folks who chimed in:

I ended up with this Kiuchi Hitachino Nest White Ale that Silvio requested. He is reviewing some white ales for Silvio Saturday tomorrow, so this should make for a good 1-2 combo.

As you may recall, this funky Japanese beer was given to me for my birthday. I don’t actually recall who gave it to me. Sorry to whoever you are! I still love you. xoxo

When I poured the bottle I was immediate HORRIFIED at the smell. Reeked of skunky Corona. Note that Corona is the only beer in the world I won’t drink. It tastes and smells skunky to me all the time. Giving the glass a whiff a few minutes later reveals that the stank isn’t as strong. It is definitely still there though.

The beer tastes nothing like Corona, nor does the awful smell appear to ruin the flavor believe it or not. I’m personally shocked. The brew is incredibly orangy. Quite honestly, it tastes like a super watered down glass of orange juice. It’s not like any other beer I can recall trying. If the beer was carbonated at all, it would be Orangina-like.

All-in-all, despite the horrid stink the beer initially gives off, it really isn’t half bad. It’s quite light, but it’s really perfect for a beautiful 75 degree spring day like today!
