Goose Island Honker’s Ale

Goose Island Honker's AleIt’s been another busy Thursday. I got up at 5:00 to play 9-holes of golf. I shot a 48, which is better than my 52 average. I then worked from 8:30 – 5:00. Class from 6-8 (got out an hour early). A wholesome dinner of hot pockets and cranberry juice at 8:30.

Now we’re chilling on the couch watching the movie “The Great Debaters”. I just cracked a bottle of this Goose Island Honker’s Ale. I do believe this is my first ever Goose Island brew. This particular specimen was another brew that was left at my house courtesy poker buddies.

The beer smells IPA-ish. Hoppy for sure. Citrusy hops I bet.

The head is ample here. The beer is a caramel color.

I’m surprised that this Honker’s isn’t more bitter tasting. I expected much more given the hoppy aroma. It’s actually pretty mild. There’s definitely citrusy hops in the flavor, but there isn’t any big hop-whollop. It’s balanced out with some malty sweetness.

At the end of the day, it’s just an OK beer for me.

  1. Honkers is indeed just OK. Goose Island makes many others that are very good. I like the brown ale. Yu have too try Matilda, and many of their other specialty beers.
