Troegs Nugget Nectar

Troegs Nugget NectarTonight we’re watching the movie The Invention of Lying. It’s a comedy about a world where no one lies. Pretty freakin hilarious. In other news, I’m working hard at planning the next Boston Craft Beer Tweetup. I’m waiting to hear back from the fellas at American Craft before the deal is completely sealed. Mark your calendars for the afternoon of Saturday June 26th.

Tonight I’m cozying up to a Troegs Nugget Nectar. I got the beer from my mom for my birthday a few months ago. Which TOTALLY reminds me about the pictures I took with the brews she gave me. I meant to post them as I reviewed each beer, but I forgot. So, here they all are in their glory.

This Nuggest Nectar is an interesting beast. When I first smelled it, I figured I was dealing with another hoppy grapefruit beer. My first impression couldn’t have been more incorrect.

It starts out malty sweet. It reminds me a little of honey actually. The grapefruit does start coming through, but not in an abrasive bitter way. It’s actually a really good balance. It finishes on the bitter side, but only slightly. Overall the grapefruit flavor is the most authentic I’ve tasted.

Even at 7.5% ABV, it’s an easy drink.

Have you had the Nugget Nectar? What else did you pick up in the flavor?

  1. Yes, I had one on a recent visit to Philadelphia, and remember loving it. I think. Actually, I had so much great beer in Philly that it's a bit of a blur.

  2. It's a surprising beer, but if I remember correctly, it's been out for a while now. The hops may have faded on yours. I've had some in my fridge for a few months and it's definitely not as hoppy as when I bought it. Excellent beer though. I thought it would be hoppier fresh, but it wasn't that bad. It's called an imperial amber ale, not an IPA.

  3. Imperial amber is a style I want to try more of but can never find a good example. Sounds like this is worth getting if I can find it.

An interesting review, Lost, if it really marries some grapefruitiness without being cloying or too hoppy bitter either. Sounds unique.

  4. Love, love love your birthday beer photos. Love.

Also, I dig Nugget Nectar but think it's a tad overhyped (just my opinion). I most definitely detected a bit of honey, like you said.

Regarding the movie, would you recommend it? I've been wanting to see it.

  5. Hannah:

The movie was awesome. Hilarious and truly unique plot. For those of you unfamiliar, the plot is that no one can lie. In fact, they don't even know how to, and they physically can't. Until the main actor (Ricky Gervais) figures out how to lie. Hilarity ensues.

  6. Love Nugget Nectar, I could drink that all the time. I thought the malts really and hops were balanced pretty well. The pack i got was only 10 days old when I had so it was pretty fresh. Alas, I was unable to let it sit any longer than a couple of days.
