As I have done the last couple of weeks, I’m providing a weekend breakdown in pictures followed by a beer review.
Friday night and Saturday during the day were pretty laid back. Nothing interesting to report. Saturday night was our big night. Oktoberfest party at Sean & Kerry’s house. Sunday was a day of rest (i.e. hangover time).
This is us with our friends Sean & Kerry. Kerry got festive. Sean had lederhosen, but wussed out and didn’t wear them for the party….weak!
This is the “before” photo of the chalk-wall.
And the after picture. The results of 15 people adding their artwork. I added lots of pink penises. It only seemed appropriate given that no one had drawn genitalia yet (and I was trashed).
Kerry is a chef and Sean is a damn good cook too, so the food is always awesome there. There were home made pretzels (above), a cheese platter (below), beer-soaked bratwurst, and tofu brats for Melissa and I!
And of course…BEER! A 1/2 keg of Samuel Adams Octoberfest.
Despite our best efforts, we didn’t get close to kicking the keg. Sean and I both put away 5-6 full cups of beer using his “Big Ass Beer” cups from New Orleans.
Melissa enjoyed cider. In ~8 hours she killed a 12 pack of Woodchuck. She’s a cider drinking machine. Unlike the rest of us, she suffered no after effects!
Note the sling, courtesy the broken “Melbow”.
On my home computer I have an entire library of photos that are just of my face. It’s a hobby of mine. I probably took 10 on Saturday night, mostly using other people’s cameras. This is the one I took with my own camera.
So that was Saturday. Sunday I spent the day hanging out with little brother, napping, playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer mode, and watching the NFL Redzone channel. The Redzone channel, by the way, is FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!
So that brings us to Monday. Long day at work. Class after work. Rush home for the Patriots game. Get home JUST in time to see kick-off. YES! Patriots sucking. NO! Beer. YES!
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale smells of spices. Quite delicious smelling. I didn’t think much of the color, but Melissa “oohed” and “ahhed” saying the brew was a pretty pumpkin color.
The pumpkin beer that’s most fresh in my mind is the Southern Tier Pumking. This Smuttynose is nothing like that beer. Mild in comparison.
Mild yes, but definitely not boring. This is a delicious rendition of the pumpkin beer. Spicy with pumpkin flavors. Maybe some nutmeg in there, which lingers in the delicious after taste.
Overall a REALLY solid beer. Methinks I need to try more Smuttynose. It’s a gap in my beer experience.
As a final note, my wife is giving away a necklace made from recycled beer bottles. Her new business Ecolissa.com is sponsoring the contest. You can learn about how to enter here.
And for the guy readers who are saying “why do I care?”…your girlfriend or wife would love this necklace. Very fashionable. Win it and then tell her you paid lavish amounts of cash for it.
