Founders Backwoods Bastard

Founders Backwoods Bastard

Tonight was poker night with the guys. I ended up placing second in the first game, which basically paid for me playing tonight. Free poker…good times. I was drinking Narragansett tonight, but before I got too deep into them, I decided to do a mid-card-game-review of Founders Backwoods Bastard.

Someone put the beer on my shopping list MONTHS ago. I don’t recall who.

Founders Backwoods Bastard

The Backwoods bastard is technically a scotch ale, but I could have mistaken it for something else…maybe an old ale.

Regardless of style, this brew is frickin fantastic. Smells like bourbon, which makes sense since it is aged in bourbon barrels. The beer is a mohagany color and has off-white head.

Vanilla and bourbon are all over the flavor. Hours later I can still taste the beer…although it’s probably all in my head. :)

Other poker attendees added the following:
* Daryll thought it was smokey.
* Al stated it was smooth.
* Everyone who tried it agreed it was absolutely delicious.

It seems that this beer only comes out at certain times of the year. This is the first time I’ve seen it in my local liquor store. If you happen upon some, I recommend you give it a go!
