Oskar Blues Old Chub

Oskar Blues Old Chub

Tonight was a huge night. I became a smart phone owner. I’m now considering upgrading the rabbit-ears on my TV and 8-track player.

Melissa and I got matching Droid 2 phones. Verizon Wireless has a killer buy-1-get-1-free deal. $150 for two Droid 2s? YES PLEASE!

In other excellent news, the Bruins crushed the Sabres. *thrust*

Oskar Blues Old Chub

Time to cap a great evening with some (hopefully) great beer. I’ve heard good things about Oskar Blues Old Chub, and I’ve liked their other stuff that I’ve tried.

This stuff is a super dark colored scotch ale.

Random fact #1: Did you know that for the longest time I thought scotch ale had something to do with scotch (the liquor)?
Random fact #2: Did you know that up until RIGHT NOW I didn’t know there was a difference between scotch ale and scottish ale? (apparently scotch ales are sweeter, higher abv, and more roasty than scottish ales)

Both true stories. Admissions of a beer newb.

Based on the aforementioned scotch ale description, it would seem that the chub is a serious scotch ale. VERY dark brown. Very roasted smelling. And whooooowheeeeeee boozy as a mother Fer. The boozy aftertaste lingers and is accompanied by a warmness in my belleh.

In addition to booze, there’s some roasted malts, caramel, and a touch of something I can’t place…maybe dark fruit like cherry or raisin.

The stuff really grows on ya, and the booziness definitely fades after a few sips. A good beer. Not knocking my socks off though.
