Vegas is 3 days away. I am SO ready for a vacation. Work has been crazy. In fact, I should probably be logged onto work right now to take care of some stuff. After a long day at work, then a few hours of class, I need a beer first.
The beer of the evening is Flying Dog Raging Bitch. From what I’ve heard, this is a very good Belgian Pale ale. Now, the last B.P.A I had was Blue Moon’s Pale Moon. I’m getting reacquainted with the style.
The Flying Dog is surprisingly light colored – a light amber.
After my experience with the Pale Moon, I wasn’t expecting a ton of hops in the Bitch. WRONG! I actually choked a little at the first sip, caught completely off-guard. The brew is quite delicious…just not what I had envisioned.
The beer is more pale ale than Belgian. I’m picking up very little Belgian character (e.g. spice). More hoppy than sweet for sure, but there is unmistakable caramely malt action. The hops are floral NOT citrusy.
Decent lacing, decent head, decent carbonation.
Very drinkable beer. At 8.3% ABV, this one could get you in trouble. Another solid beer from Flying Dog.
On one final note, a kinda cool Flying Dog story I often tell people about…
In the early days of the blog I reviewed a bunch of Flying Dog beers (Canis Major mix-pack). I was (and still am) a huge fan of the Horn Dog barleywine. Following the aforementioned review, I mentioned on twitter that I couldn’t find straight 4-packs of the Horn Dog. The people running the Flying Dog twitter account saw the tweet, asked me where I lived, and in a matter of days I had a case of Horn Dog waiting for me at my local liquor store! How cool is that? Great PR, Flying Dog!
