We are doing “Silvio Saturday” on Sunday again this week. Today, Silvio reviews a Mikkeller/Brew Dog collaboration beer. I guess it’s a mix of Brewdog’s Hardcore IPA and Mikkeller’s I Beat You, with some additional hops added. Interesting indeed! Silvio…
Yet again, softball and DIY duties have delayed my guest review. While I love my beer reviewing duties, moving day is next week, and I needed to finish painting and removing the awful artificial pond left behind by the previous owner/repaving my back yard’s brick patio. Of course, now I’m crazy beat – time to relax with a brew.
I’m reviewing Mikeller’s Brew Dog Imperial IPA. It’s got awesome artwork on the label, which is honestly what drew me in. Fortunately, that’s not all the beer has going for it. The pour is ridiculous, led by a strong aroma of sweet fruit akin to an unfiltered apple cider, and topped by a light foamy crown over a cloudy dark amber-colored body.
Taste-wise, this IPA is the perfect blend of malts and hops. The first flavor I got was a rich roasted malt backbone with some hints of a dark fruit – reminded me of raisins. The malts perfectly set up the hops, crisp and stanky without too much bitterness, but the perfect counter to the sweet and rich malts. The flavor doesn’t fade at all through the end, and the final notes are crisp and thick on my tongue.
This beer has pretty much everything going for it. Great color, solid aroma, well-rounded flavor, and heavy ABV at 9.5%.
