Tonight is bad movie and good beer night in the Lost household. We are watching Starship Troopers 2 & Starship Troopers 3. Now, we are huge fans of the first Starship Troopers. Not because it is a good movie, but for sentimental reasons. You see, during my college years I lived with one of my buddies for a summer and we had the flick on a continuous loop day and night. Between the two of us we had most of the lines from the movie memorized.
Damn near 10 years later that same buddy is in the Middle East serving our country. God speed Frank. Come home safe soon buddy! Service guarantees citizenship!
Starship Troopers 2 is only 20 minutes in and it’s absolutely God awful. And not even in that “it sucks so bad it’s good” kinda way. I’m letting it fly in the hopes it gets better. It’s pretty clear the budget for the 2nd movie is about an 8th of that of the 1st.
The beer pairing up with the Troopers is Sixpoint Righteous Ale. It’s a rye ale – a style I frankly have no experience with.
Things started off interesting with a HUGE head and strong piney hop flavor.
The brew is on the hoppy side. No wait, the brew is THOROUGHLY on the hoppy side. There is some malty sweetness that starts to even the flavor out but in the end Mr. Malt gets it’s ass kicked by “the bitter”.
The Sixpoint Cream Ale was terrific. My second foray into the breweries offerings is a resounding “meh” from me. If you’re into hoppy rye ales though, this bad boy is the ticket.
