Tonight I’m lazy so I’m turning the blog over to Brandon. He’s reviewing a beer we both tried recently. Brandon…
Today I had off from work and took full advantage for some R&R. I hung out a lot with my wife and son (it’s her birthday today) and did some grilling (my grilled pork chops came out fantastic). My wife and son are shopping right now, which means I have a few quiet moments to drink a beer and write a review. So let’s get to it!
I picked up this bottle of Kasteel Rouge from Julio’s Liquors in Westboro, MA after the Belgian Beer Fest last weekend. I had this beer and fell in love with it, so I had to pick up a bottle.
This is a fruit beer that could also be classified as a sour beer. It registers at 8% ABV. It pours a dark, mahogany brown that almost looks like a real dark red wine. It smells of black cherries and chocolate. Hell, this beer is ALL cherries. Everything about it. Maybe black cherries? I’m not sure, but its very fruity. It almost tastes like a port wine! Damn, this is good!
There was a decent little head on it after pouring into the glass, but it quickly dissipated. It’s not leaving much of a lace, but there is a very decent carbonation in this beer.
I really enjoyed this beer and look to pick some up in the future. It’s perfect for a summer night. If I had to pick a time to drink this beer, it would be after you ate. It’s certainly a desert beer in my eyes, as I don’t see it going well with any food (besides maybe fish).
If you’re into this type of thing, then this is the beer for you. Pick some up at Julio’s!
