Michelob Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat

Tonight on my way home I stopped by Julio’s liquors to pick up some much needed beer. As I mentioned last night, I had literally run out of beer.

As I was checking out, the cashier asked if I had tried the Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat. I told her that I hadn’t, but would review it tonight! So, to the cashier who I see almost weekly and should know the name of (but don’t)…

I’m a huge fan of Shock Top proper. The stuff is just great on a summer day. It seemed to make sense to give this fall variant a shot.

The stuff pours a light orange color. Smells a little spicy. Goes down QUICK! It has all the characteristics of other pumpkin beers, teetering over to the malty sweet side. It’s also thoroughly watered down. If there ever was a pumpkin beer you could easily drink a half dozen of, it’s this one.

I’d prefer to have one really good pumpkin, rather than 6 mediocre ones. So I guess in the end I’m not a big fan.

  1. Not a big fan either. Shipyard, to me is the best, and I’ve been trying to find one that comes close. Ufo not so much, shock top not so much. Saranac actually wasn’t bad. Don’t know if you have tried that one yet, but it’s decent. Can’t wait to see you soon.

    1. I don’t know if you can get it up your way Steve, but the Cambridge Brewing Company just started distributing their Great Pumpkin Ale. It will give Shipyard a good run.
