Last night we entertained for our friends Kevin and Emily (fresh off their honeymoon to Hawaii). Instead of making food, we hit up our local Mediterranean restaurant. The place is BYOB, so I brought along a bottle of Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela. Sour pumpkin beer and Greek food isn’t the best combo, but whatever!
I picked up the La Parcela because I’m always on the prowl for new beers from the Jolly Pumpkin brewery. I recently said I was done with pumpkin beers for this fall, but I couldn’t turn down a pumpkin beer from this brewery. Despite their name, this is the first time they have done a pumpkin beer!
The brew was good, but lacked that pumpkin spice flavor. The sour flavors overtook the beer and only for a couple of fleeting moments did I taste anything except sour. Such a shame too, as it is brewed with cacao nibs, which I think would have brought a great combo of flavors had the balance of ingredients had been better.
