I’m under the weather again. The sore throat from earlier this week subsided and yesterday I felt great. This morning I woke up with a nose that was running like a faucet. After blowing my nose all day, I’m feeling spent. Good thing Greg sent me a guest review for today! Greg….
My wife is working late tonight so I have some time to get a beer review in. During my last trip to Julio’s I picked up Cisco’s Shredder Ale because the logo caught my eye. It’s a little snow man surfing on the Cisco wave logo, very neat. Cisco is a local brewery as well so I go out of my way to check out their beers.
The Shredder ale pours a deep red color. It has a thin off white head that disappears pretty quickly. The beer has some nice legs though and leaves nice lacing on the sides of the glass. This beer has smells kinda like a sweet Belgian to me which is not what I was expecting (seems to be a common experience for me lately) as the bottle describes the beer as “ale brewed with natural spices.” Onto the taste now. The Shredder Ale has a strong nutty malt profile that I would associate with a brown ale. There is a flavor that I picked up on the back of my tongue that I can’t really identify. The best way I can describe it like a bitter green pepper. If any readers out there have had this beer, please comment and let me know what you think it tastes like or what the natural spices used were. Unfortunately, I don’t particularly like this beer. At least I got a fun label out of the deal.
