Tonight was cookie night in the Lost household. Each year I make a few batches for my co-workers. This year the choice was vegan chocolate chip. They came out great, so I’m pumped to hand them out tomorrow.

I’m celebrating finishing baking with a bottle of Mean Old Tom from Maine Beer Company. I’ve been pretty excited to try it since I picked it up a few weeks back.

The beer is a stout aged on vanilla beans. For the record, I have had zero luck with vanilla infused beers; I can never taste the vanilla.

Mean Old Tom is full of roasted malt flavors. Coffee is the main flavor I pick up. Toffee sweetness is pretty obvious as well. To my horror, once again I cannot pick up any real vanilla!!!

Despite the vanilla let-down, I enjoyed the beer. It wasn’t anything unique or special, but it was a solid, super smooth, well balanced stout!
