Wormtown Sweet Tats

Tonight we did some last minute Christmas shopping. You know, food items, scratch tickets and the like. We stopped by Julio’s Liquors as a part of the trip – I’m bringing a mixed six pack of beer for a Yankee swap. Some lucky person is going to end up with the following LIBA favorites:

  • Sixpoint Sweet Action
  • 21st Amendment Fireside Chat
  • Cisco grey Lady
  • Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron
  • Wells Banana Bread Beer
  • Founders Breakfast Stout

It was hard, but I avoided buying any of the Breakfast Stout for myself. That stuff is in the top 10 best beers I’ve EVER had!

I did come home with a beer for myself – Wormtown Sweet Tats Imperial Stout. I’ve heard people say this beer is good and I knew that it won’t be available for long. This is a big beer, weighing in at 9% ABV. It’s brewed with locally roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, and vanilla beans. YUMMY sounding!

First off, there is a fantastic head on this beer. 10 minutes after pouring there is still an eighth of an inch of foam. Pretty lacing on the glass = bonus points. The flavors are robust.

*** COFFEE *** In your face coffee. This is what you will taste. I’m shocked at how much this tastes like coffee beans. Often I say beers have a coffee flavor (courtesy the roasted malts). This beer tastes LIKE coffee. Furthermore, I can actually taste the vanilla!

VERY high marks. I’m definitely sleeping with this bottle in my arms tonight.

I’m going to have to ring up the head brewer Ben and tell him how much I liked this. I also may just have to head over to the brewery to get a pint on tap!

  1. I liked this beer too. I tried it at Peppercorns first (love how you can sample the beers before you take home a beer) and feel in love with the smooth, malty and chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee. When I brought the bomber home, I was surprised how different it tasted. Much more as you described- strong coffee flavor witha hint of bitterness. I let it warm up a bit too, thinking it might open up a bit, but I thought the flavor stayed the same for the most part. If you get a chance check it out on draft.

      1. I tried this tonight at Stoddard’s Pub in Boston and it was awesome. I had not heard much about it yet, but man, I was really pleasantly surprised about this one. Loved it.
