Tonight I’m lacking any anecdotes or witty remarks. I’m boring. How about we skip the shenanigans and get to the beer review?
The beer of choice is Wormtown Pro-Am Porter. The “Pro-am” name is due to the fact that the recipe is a collaboration between a local home brewer and Wormtown. Pretty cool, eh? The beer won a bronze at the Great American Beer Festival a couple years back, so I’m expecting it to be good. A stand-out porter is elusive in my opinion, so we’ll see how it goes.
My first impression upon tasting this puppy is: “chewy”. Not sweet, not terribly bitter either…just full flavored. The flavors are robust and roasted malt is the big player. Add to that a little nuttiness and slight vanilla flavor and you have a relatively complex porter.
Even at 6.8% ABV it’s incredibly drinkable with a light mouthfeel. Is it a life-changing beer that will make my man-panties drop? No. Is it a damn fine porter that I’m going to drink the shit out of? Absolutely.
