Tonight I owe a big thank you to my buddy Norman for posting about the LIBABeerUp in his beer blog today. It was totally unexpected and appreciated! His blog is connected to many local newspapers and this particular article has already been picked up by a couple papers. Hopefully this drums up some much needed hype around the event. I currently have 50 RSVPs…150 short of where I want to be!
Tonight’s beer wound up in my fridge because I really liked the label. Simple and creative. Baaaaaaaaa (that’s my sheep impression). According to Beer Advocate, the beer’s style is “Euro Dark Lager”. That’s a gussied-up way of saying that this is a black lager.
My initial thoughts are to review this like a black IPA, but that’s not fair given that I’m not sure this Baba is supposed to have as much hoppiness as a black IPA. Instead, I suppose I’ll leave comparisons out and just tell you what I taste.
The flavors aren’t overly complex. A strong roasted malt flavor permeates beginning to end. Very little sweetness. It has a very light (almost watery) body, most likely related to the fact that it’s 4% ABV. Another benefit of the low ABV? You can suck these suckers down REAL fast.
Other bonus points for Uinta: This beer is organic and the brewery utilizes renewable energy.
Summary? Although I drained my mug super quick, I’m not super impressed. If you’re looking for a dark lager that goes down easy, you might give this a go.
