Mexico day 4! Nearly time to pack up and go home. So sad. I have one last guest review for you before I return tomorrow. Thanks to Greg for helping out tonight…
Tonight I am filling in for Lost while he is off gallivanting about. He put you in my large, ample hands, which sounds even creepier when I write it out like that.
So on to the beer. Tonight I am opening Southern Tier Gemini which is an “imperial, unfiltered, blended ale.” It is made up of 50% Unearthly (imperial IPA) and 50% Hoppe (imperial extra pale ale). A blended beer is a new concept to me, but Southern Tier has a good track record with me so hopefully they come through again. The Gemini pours a slightly hazy orange with a thick one finger head. The first thing I smell is hops and lots of them. The nose is citrusy pine that is making my mouth water. As I expected, lots of hop flavor up front. It is a nice citrus flavor without too much bitterness. What I didn’t expect was the flavor to flip from hops over to a fruity maltiness. The other flavors I get are banana and caramel. Gemini has a long malty finish and a soft mouth feel. Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. I found it very enjoyable and super drinkable at 9% abv. Southern Tier gets another gold star in my book.
