Legend Hefeweizen

Today may have been the perfect day. Weather-wise, it was sunny and 70 with no humidity and a light breeze. Amazing weather. After biking to a local farmers market, I did some yard work, took a walk around Old Town Alexandria with wifey and my pug, sold an old bike on Craigslist, and barbecued some burgers in the back yard. Ah, perfect.

Anyway, BBQ over, time for some good beer. This week I’m reviewing Virginia-based Legend brewery’s hefeweizen. I love reviewing local brews and this Richmond brewery is one of the state’s oldest.

The pour is beautiful, much clearer and lighter than I expected, with light carbonation and a fluffy head. It’s a light-yellow straw color and the aroma smells strongly of spices, cloves in particular.

Taste-wise, all I can say is yum. I get banana on the front, start picking up cloves through the middle, and liked the slightly peppery end note. This is a good beginner’s hefeweizen, spicy without being overbearing, but with several distinct flavors. Legend has a small sales range limited to Virginia, Maryland, D.C., and North Carolina, but if you see it – get it!
