Hello! For those who don’t know, I am Josh’s wife, Melissa. Josh has been harassing me for ages to contribute to the blog and I am finally complying. I don’t like beer (WHAT?!! I know, I know) so I will be reviewing ciders. I LOVE cider. I only discovered them a few year back and have been trying to make up for lost time ever since.
Last night I drank the Blackberry Pear Cider from Fox Barrel. I found this bottle at the Bier Cellar in Portland, MA during our trip this past weekend. This cider is 5.0% ABV. Noteworthy: Fox Barrel ciders are all Gluten Free for the wheat-intolerant person. I also appreciate that there are no added colorants, sugar, sorbate or benzoate preservatives.
The color is a gorgeous ruby red. The scent is light, mostly pear. I can’t really smell the blackberry. There is no carbonation. It has a light flavor. You can taste both the pear and blackberries, but the aftertaste is all berries. It is not sweet or syrupy, just super delicious. I really like this cider so I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for the other flavors, especially the Apricot Pear Cider!
Josh tried a sip. His response, “tastes like berries”.
