Rising Tide Ishmael

Rising Tide Ishmael

Tonight I’m feeling good. I had a decent day at work and then banged out a 4 mile run after. That’s 4 miles twice this week already. Both times I ran with a 7:33 average pace, which is on pace with what I run for a 5k. But doesn’t that beg the question, shouldn’t my 5k time be better???

Later this evening I’m planning a trip to Julio’s for some fresh beverages. I’m down to just a few review beers left! I’m going to try to behave myself and stick to a mixed 6-pack. Emphasis on the word “try”.

Before I shoot down to Julio’s, I’m throwing back this bottle of Ishmael, an “altbier” brewed by Rising Tide. The beer is labeled as a copper ale. As such, I was expecting malt, malt, and more malt.

What I got was malt and an earthy bitterness. That’s two consecutive nights with earthy hops. I didn’t dig it much last night, and I’m not feeling it now. Don’t get me wrong…the beer is highly drinkable and not bad by any stretch. The earthy flavor just isn’t my thing. If you’re down with said flavors, I’d recommend this beer in a second!
