Tonight’s beer is Rumble by Great Divide. It is an oaked aged IPA. I love IPAs, but I haven’t had very good experiences with oak aged beers. I like Great Divide’s labels. The silhouettes on most of the labels are pretty cool.
Rumble pours with a nice two finger off white head that hangs around for a bit. It is a clear dark orange color. On the nose I get vanilla and another smell that I can only think to describe as fall vegetables. Not much in the way of hops or citrus though.
The Rumble gives me vanilla on the first sip followed by caramel. After the vanilla and caramel I finally get some bitterness, but it is very mellow. Over all, the flavors are subtle, very smooth and mellow. The finish is more malt than bitter with some sweetness but it is very pleasant. Rumble is very drinkable, dangerously drinkable at 7.1 % alcohol. If you are in the mood for hops, skip this beer but if you want a well balanced, delicious beer definitely give it a shot.
