Anytime I see a new beer from Notch Brewing I get super excited. As the constant designated driver in the household, I LOVE the infusion of sub 5% ABV beers that have come to market. Notch is leading the charge with excellent options.

Unfortunately, this Notch Polotmavy is doing NOTHING for me. I don’t dislike the beer…I just don’t particularly like it. It’s a Czech Pilsener, but frankly reminds me of an off-the-shelf amber. It’s mostly malty with some (just barely) earthy hops at the end.

At 4.4%, I could drink this stuff all day…it just wouldn’t be very interesting. I’ll stick to the other Notch brews that I enjoy so much.

  1. The ‘polotmavy’ style of beer is not a pilsner, it is a distinct beer style in the Czech Republic descended from Anton Dreher’s original Vienna Lager. The name literally translates as ‘half dark’, which refers to the fact that most brewers used the same malts as for their dark lagers – ‘tmavy’ in Czech – just less of them.
