Victory Saison du Buff 2012

Saison du Buff

I’ve got this post queued up for day 3 of our trip to the Dominican. By now, I’m probably hitting my stride and falling into the vacation routine: Up at 5:30 to watch the sunrise, drinking on the beach by 10am, lunch, reading by the pool all afternoon, a quick nap for the wife while I sit in the hot tub chugging beers, dinner, entertainment, more drinking.

Man, vacation rules…

Do you know what else rules? This Saison du Buff! This is the 2nd or 3rd year that Dogfish Head, Victory, and Stone have collaborated to create the Saison du Buff. Saison is one of my least favorite styles, and I was expecting the usual spicy/peppery “blah”. I was wrong!

The 2012 Buff is brewed with Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. One might assume that the beer is far too herbal with all this thrown in, however it is balanced incredibly well with a honey sweetness. The result is more of a sweet flowery taste than an herbal taste.

Fantastically unique, interesting and tasty. I loved reviewing this beer and I would try it again if I saw it. I would not have more than one in a sitting given how strong the flavors are.
