Magic Hat Wooly

Magic Hat Wooly

Last week more Magic Hat beer appeared on my doorstep. Gotta love when that happens! This time around, it’s Magic Hat’s winter seasonal line-up including Encore IPA, Heart of Darkness and tonight’s brew of choice, Wooly ESB.

Magic Hat Wooly

The Wooly is an extra special bitter that has spruce (yes, like the tree) added. It pours a golden amber color, which appears light and effervescent. It has some spicy smells, but not a lot of pine tree. In fact, pine is somewhat absent from the flavors as well. NOTE: I’m coming off a nasty head cold, and although I am no longer stuffed-up, the lingering effects could be impacting my senses.

Despite the lack of pine, the beer has a decent flavor profile. I’m getting some earthy hops balanced well with caramel malt. At 4.5% ABV, the bottle is nearly gone before I realized it!
