I will admit, once in a while drinking beer feels a bit like a job. There are times when I come home from work and just want to crash-out. There’s other nights that I’m enjoying a good beer, but the creative words just don’t flow out. When my favorite Ecolissa model Michelle comes over to co-review beer with me, I rarely have these problems. Last weekend, she popped over to share a few beers. Over the next few days, I’ll share out thoughts on said beers.
The first thing we tried was a bottle of Shipyard Smashed Blueberry that had been in my fridge for many, many months. I believe it was an April birthday present from my mom. No worries though, because this puppy is 9% ABV.
Given the ABV, you are probably already keen to the fact that this is no ordinary blueberry beer. It’s a super dark twist on the style, and is unique among blueberry beers that I’ve tried.
The aroma is strictly blueberry pie for me. For flavors I initially got all blueberry, but as the beer warmed, the dark malts shined through with significant chocolate notes. The finish is a biscuit taste that again makes me think of pie crust.
Michelle liked the beer saying that she liked it better the other blueberry beer she is familiar with, Sea Dog. She mentioned that she liked Guinness, and thought this was a fun combo of blueberry and Guinness. Her analysis was pretty spot on.
We even got my wife Melissa to try the brew. She said it was “blueberrytastic”, but declined to drink more than a couple of sips. High marks from someone who dislikes beer.
