Happy Thankgiving Eve! For those of you who are traveling this holiday weekend, please drive safe. I’m looking forward to a long relaxing 4-day weekend. Believe it or not, I’m going to miss work! The honeymoon period most definitely hasn’t ended for me and I continue to be thrilled to have switched jobs.
Here on the homefront, what free time we have is quickly taken up with a variety of things. Tonight we’re going out with friends Emily and Kevin to hit up Owen O’Learys for some Bruins and beers. I even texted Kevin to tell him to wear his Bruins “Mashmont” jersey so we could be jersey twins. How ridiculous is that?
As I kill some time before we hit up Owen’s, I’m blasting some old school hip hop (Warren G at the moment) and throwing back a bottle of Backlash Catalyst. This brew is an 8.5% ABV double IPA and is part of the “Uprising” series of beers from Backlash.
I’m actually not a huge fan. The label says “Stand up Stand out” and it definitely stands out…in the astringent department. It tastes massively over-hopped. Now, four years I reviewed a lot of beers as “too hoppy”, which today I would say are terrific and not too hoppy (due to palette changes). As a born-again hop-head, you know if I’m telling you today that a beer is too hoppy, it means something.
Although I tend to like Backlash beer, and love the owners, I can’t hide that this brew is an all-to-typical and boring grapefruit bomb.
