Boston Beer Samuel Adams Juniper IPA

Sam Adams Juniper IPA bottle

Well, it’s getting to be that time again: holiday-themed beer time. I’m spending the weekend with a few friends at their house in the Virginia mountains, and decided to pick up a holiday sampler from Sam Adams.

It’s a pretty sweet deal – twelve bottles of beer, two apiece of six different varieties with a few special holiday-only releases. While most of them have already been reviewed, I lucked out and was able to enjoy both bottles of Sam’s Juniper IPA. I’m a huge fan of juniper-flavored beers, and Sam is almost always on point, so this was a no-brainer.

The beer pours out a clear copper color, with a light foam crown and light lacing along the glass, and a hoppy aroma with nice juniper notes in the background. The beer starts out with lots of crisp piney hops before transitioning into a sweet malt middle with hints of citrus. It ends with a ton of juniper flavor, distinct and enjoyable. I thought it was all-around tasty, but one of my friends thought the aftertaste was a bit too overwhelming.

All in all I thought this was a great beer, and since it’s only available on limited release, I’d definitely encourage LIBA nation to pick up a few while they’re around!
