I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent mine in Vermont visiting my family. It was an excellent trip where I had ample time to catch up with my mom and step-dad, got a chance to beer-shop and even made a visit to Three Penny Taproom. Sunday morning we woke up to quite a surprise in the form of a blanket of snow…not funny Vermont, not funny.
Although I did review some beer this past weekend, tonight’s review is a hold-over from last Wednesday’s evening of poker and beer. Beer that evening was my treat and I asked the guys what I could get them. My buddy Darryl requested Ommegang Wild at Heart, an 8% ABV American Wild Ale.
Being that this beer is a wild ale, we were both hoping that this beer would be more tart than it ended up being. More prominent was a fruity flavor. Another buddy Al said he tasted vanilla, which I didn’t detect, but thought was interesting. In defense of the beer, the bottle’s label indicates that the beer is mild in terms of tartness. Then again, the label called for tropical fruit flavor, which I didn’t pick up on.
Although it was a decent beer, for the price of the bottle (~$15 as I recall), it isn’t something I will buy again.
