Howdy ho neighborinos! Tonight I’m chilling out, watching some Game of Thrones and with the exceptions of a few chores, trying to relax after a long day at work. Oh, and I’m drinking an 11% ABV beer on a Monday night. Yeah…it’s apparently one of those Mondays.
Now, I must confess, many times I’ll pour out a beer that’s too boozy, comes in a large bottle and is reviewed on a “school night”. Tonight, the beer is too tasty.
Pioneer the New Frontier is what’s in my glass. It’s an imperial IPA from the Pioneer Brewing Company, out of western MA. The brewery recently shifted gears, focusing on these imperial high-test brews. The New Frontier is a California-style beer, meaning that it’s LOADED with hops. It’s a hop-head’s dream. The flavor are intense and I pick up a variety of mixed hops flavors including grapefruit and flowers. It has a solid malt backbone, which makes sense since a lot of sugar had to be present to get the ABV so high. It’s a really good beer for anyone who loves “the bitter”.
P.S. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that today is National Beer day. I frankly scoff at this “holiday”, as every day is National Beer day to me. Stupid thing to celebrate if you’re a real beer fan…in my honest opinion.
