Shipyard XXXX IPA

Shipyard XXXX IPA

This afternoon I went into Cambridge and got my 3/4 sleeve tattoo completed. It’s been a long time coming. The tattoo was started in November and I’m finally done after 6 sittings and a total of 24 hours under the needle. I’ll refrain from telling you how much this run me, but let your imagination run wild and you’re probably not far off. The piece is absolutely amazing and worth every penny. I’ll post pictures tomorrow once the swelling has gone down. If you’d like to see my progression of tattoo work, just do a quick LIBA search on “tattoo“.

As I recover from this afternoon’s ink session, I’m enjoying a bottle of Shipyard XXXX IPA. This is an imperial IPA from the Pugsley Signature Series (a series of high ABV beers from the Portland, ME abased brewery). At first sniff, I can tell this is a hop-bomb. I get all citrus on the nose. The first few sips are tough on the palette; it is thoroughly hoppy. After a few sips I start getting used to the citrus (grapefruit) and floral intensity and even start appreciating how “clean” and “pure” the hops taste. That is, I feel that the flavors come through very specific and there isn’t a lot of question about what I’m tasting.

It’s a good beer, but not for the weak of hop-heart!
