Well, another weekend has come and gone. My weekend went a little like this…
Friday we took Gunnar into the vet for a follow-up appointment. He’s doing great and keeps improving. He’s doing so well that they are letting us back-off on some of his fluids, meaning that we only have to stick him with a needle once per day instead of twice. On Saturday, we went to a birthday par for Norm, The Beer Nut. He turned 40 and we celebrated by chugging on liters and half liters of imported Okktoberfest beer! Today, Sunday, I spent the morning cleaning house and then the afternoon watching football. Sadly, the Patriots lost and I had a miserable week at fantasy football.
Tonight I’m recapping a review of a Chicago beer I shared with Greg and Heather recently: Spiteful God Damn Chocolate Banana Pigeon Porter. Quite the name, eh?
The brew smelled boozy to me. It is 8.2% ABV, but smelled more like 10% or more. Greg thought it smelled like cocoa nibs, while Heather said it reminded her of burned popcorn. After taking a second whiff, I agreed with her!
It came across as super sweet and boozy in flavor as well. Surprisingly, none of us picked up on any banana flavors. Chocolate notes were faint. Greg said it reminded him more of a rum barrel-aged beer than a porter. Sadly, we all agreed that this wasn’t good and wasn’t even a decent novelty beer.
