3 Beards Scally Wag

3 Beards Scally Wag

This week I’ve largely been a bachelor. The wife has been babysitting our nephews for the last few days. What have I done with my new found free time? Well, Tuesday night, I came home from work, ate two HUGE sandwiches, two beers, and fell asleep on the couch at 7:15pm. #bachelorlife

Tonight I managed to get out and have a couple of beers with coworkers, before running an errand or two. Now I’m back home with big plans: drink this beer, eat a snack, and fall asleep way early.

3 Beards Scally Wag

The beer in hand is 3 Beards Scally Wag. 3 Beards is a brewery out of Williamsburg, MA. I don’t know if I’ve had anything from them before. First off, the head on this beer is out of control. As soon as I popped the bottle cap, the bottle gushed. Not a good sign. Each time I tried to pour, I got a massive volcanic head. In the hundreds of beers I have reviewed, I don’t recall ever seeing anything link this. Bizarre, really. And frankly, probably a sign that something is wrong with the brew.

Flavor-wise, I’m getting a lot of roasted malt and coffee flavor, however there is something funky in the background…perhaps slightly metallic. It doesn’t taste bad, per se, but doesn’t taste particularly good either. I’m wondering if the batch is somehow infected. I RARELY pick up on a beer that’s gone bad, so when I think something off, it’s usually a good indication.
