Narragansett Autocrat

Narragansett Autocrat

Prepare yourselves for a highly unfair beer review.

As I briefly mentioned yesterday, this past weekend was quite a beery adventure. On Friday night we went out (in costume) to a local bar, dodging the trick-or-treaters. This is an upgrade from a few years back where we would turn off all our lights in the house and “hide” from the candy mongers.

On Saturday we went to an adult Halloween party. There was beer pong…with craft beer. It turns out that Founders All Day IPA makes fantastic pong-fodder.

The following morning, as one might imagine, I wasn’t feeling too hot. So, to accompany my breakfast, I poured a can of Narragansett Autocrat. The beer is an American Stout, although it’s labeled as a coffee milk stout. It is SUPER dark roasted in flavor. I mean, intensely so. I’m more of a fan of milk stouts that pack a smooth sweet finish. The Autocrat had none of that in play, even after I let the beer thoroughly warm up. Not my cup of tea, although it did help with the hangover.

So finishing where I began, drinking a beer at 10:00am on a Sunday to combat a hangover, and then reviewing it, must be one of the most unfair reviews I’ve ever given on LIBA. Sorry ‘Gansett!
