Smuttynose Winter Ale

Smuttynose Winter Ale

As predicted, we are buried in snow here in New England. Also as predicted, we were nailed in my town…center of the storm, 30+ inches of snow. Given how historic this blizzard is, I should probably be taking pictures, but frankly…what’s the point? Am I really ever going to look at them again? Just imagine cars completely covered in snow, 5-6 foot snow drifts up against buildings, and snow plowed 1-2 stories high at the end of parking lots.

For now, I’m taking a break from shoveling to bring you a review of Smuttynose Winter Ale. This is a light bodied dubbel style beer. Dark caramel in color, I found the flavors (licorice, molasses, and nuts) strange at first, but then warmed up to them after a while. I wasn’t in love with the beer.

  1. Good review, and good comments on the storm! I just bought my first six of Winter Ale, and have liked it. I like mild dark beers, and this one qualies.

Thanks for your reviews! People like me are happy not to be intimidated!
