Mayflower Standish

Mayflower Standish

Happy Sunday. Actually, I take that back…it’s not a happy Sunday. I just watched the Patriots lose to the Jets, partially due to an outlandish mistake on special teams (kicking the ball away at the beginning of overtime). It’s also not a happy Sunday because the long weekend is nearing its end. BOO. Above is my “stupid Patriots / screw you Sunday” face.

I’m non-celebrating the game with a bottle of Mayflower Standish. The beer is an Imperial Stout with a 9% ABV and is in Mayflowers’s limited edition Cooper Series.

It poured with a huge head that nearly erupted out of my glass. The resulting foam dissipated very slowly, making it difficult to drink. While head is great, there is perhaps too much head on this sucker! It has a heavy body with strong malt flavors. I’m getting very little bitter roasted flavor, although I do get coffee notes. Sweetness comes across strong with caramel and toffee flavors. This one is a sipper. Just OK for me, however if you’re looking for a malty-sweet imperial stout to drink by the fire, this one could do the trick for you.
