Night Shift Awake

Night Shift Awake

Another long weekend is drawing to a close. We had a great time, as we attended two separate New Years Eve parties. The first was hosted by friends Greg and Heather. Things started off very low key before beer pong broke out, followed by well-aged Johnny Walker Gold and then flip-cup. File under: hangover material. The second party, hosted by friends Sean and Kerry, was less of a shit-show, but was just as good of a time and included delicious food and games. Once again, I’m bummed that my time off went by so quickly. Luckily, I have a long stretch of vacation time coming in February! I have something to look forward to on Monday as well – the wife and I are finally seeing the new Star Wars movie.

This afternoon I’m watching the Patriots wrap up their regular season against the Miami Dolphins. I’m pairing the game with a tall-boy can of Night Shift Awake, a 6.7% ABV American porter. I picked this can up at Julio’s this weekend, along with some of the AMAZING Whirlpool, AKA my new favorite session IPA.

Awake isn’t overly complex, but that doesn’t stop it from being pretty damn tasty. It’s malty sweet, through and through. Sweet coffee and chocolate milkshake flavors are huge. Despite the nearly 7% ABV, medium body and relative sweetness, it goes down pretty damn quick. I was procrastinating about doing a blog post today, but I’m super glad I did. Yum!
