Check Six Flying Circus

Check Six Coconut Hefeweizen

This weekend my folks came down to visit us. We went out to eat a couple of times, did some shopping, and played some cell-phone trivia over some drinks. We ended up having a gorgeous weekend, so we spent an hour on Sunday walking the dog at the local state park. After the parents headed for home, I managed to get oil changes for BOTH cars, and then bang out a 5 mile run. The run felt like crap, but I got it done; the half marathon I’m training for seems so impossible right now. Remind me to look at this post in 6 weeks when, hopefully, I’m in shape and ready for the big race!

My mom picked up a bunch of beer for me during her recent trip to North Carolina. Tonight I’m drinking a 32-ounce “crowler” Check Six Flying Circus, a coconut hefeweizen. If the giant crowler can looks familiar, it might because it should. It seems that breweries all over the country are beginning to utilize this format.

Sadly, I don’t pick up much coconut in the beer. However, it’s still a solid hefe. Bready and citrus notes are dominant, with a ever-so-slight touch of coriander. Perhaps if I close my eyes and really focus, some coconut comes through…although it could just be wishful thinking. Check Six Brewing Company is in Southport, North Carolina. If you’re in the area, see this beer, and you like hefeweizens, I think you should give it a go.
