Black Hog Ginga Ninja

Black Hog Ginga Ninja

This week has been damn busy. Monday evening we were in Providence getting Melissa’s new tattoo, a mermaid running down the upper side of her leg. Tuesday night we were out playing trivia. Wednesday night I was out getting my new bull tattoo started (see video below). And Thursday night was “take a breather” night, where we sat and watched a couple episodes the Netflix series Stranger Things, a must-watch for anyone who grew up in the 80s.

Tonight I committed myself to banging out a review of Block Hog Ginga Ninja. The beer is an American IPA brewed with ginger. It’s 6.5% ABV. Honestly, it’s not really up my alley. On one hand it’s pretty hoppy, but on the other hand, it’s not bringing a hop flavor that is wowing me. Lots of malt up front, with piney hops following. For the first half of the can, I couldn’t taste ginger, although as it warms, it becomes more prominent. I’m not a huge fan of ginger either, so I suppose it’s good that it’s not more intense. Overall, a solid “meh” from me. If you’re into ginger, maltier beers, and piney hops, give this one a go.
