Black Hog Granola Brown Ale

Black Hog Granola Brown Ale

This past weekend was my brother’s bachelor party, so Saturday morning I shot up to Burlington, VT to hang with him. We spent the afternoon at a bar, drinking and playing pool. We then went to his best man’s house, only 20 minutes from Burlington, but COMPLETELY in cow-country. The guy’s parents own 90+ acres and we camped out in the woods on their property. The evening consisted of more drinking, the firing of assault weapons, and lighting a large bonfire. I know what you’re thinking – excessive drinking plus guns, plus fire is an amazing combo. Honestly, I was worried too, but everyone was very smart about everything. Weapons were handled with utmost care, and you would have thought we were a bunch of fire-marshals from how we acted with the fire. All-in-all, it was a great time.

Tonight I’m drinking a can of Black Hog Granola Brown Ale. Te label seems to insinuate that the brewers wanted the beer to taste a bit like granola. It doesn’t explicitly state if they used granola in the brewing process. It’s an OK beer, but in the world of brown ales, I don’t think this one will stand out. It’s malty, with deep caramel notes. It tastes like a brown ale. Yeah…that’s all I got.
