I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Mine was fairly uneventful, with the exception that I bought a new TV. It’s a Vizio 50″ M-series LED TV with 4k definition and it was $150 off in a labor day sale. Our old TV was nearly 10 years old and was experiencing pretty gnarly burn-in all the time. I’m loving the new TV. As I type we’re watching “Kidnapping Mr. Heineken”, a movie based on the true story. So far, it’s pretty damn interesting.
I’m pairing the movie with a bomber of Cambridge Brewing Morning Dew, a Belgian Pale ale with 5.5% ABV. The beer is quite unique, being brewed with elderflowers. It tastes like a hoppy flower, and finishes with a Belgian spiciness. Even with it’s creative mix of flavors, the beer is light bodied and easy to drink. Love it.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I switched my photos over from just beer to my face…and beer. I don’t recall if I talked about why I made the switch, but I’m in the process of deciding whether to stick with it. On one hand, I love making faces and I think you secretly love my faces also. Facebook traffic to LIBA has significantly increased since I started showing off my mug. On the other hand, I do have a professional career to consider. Surely publishing my goofy-looking self will eventually come back to bite my career in the ass, no? I’d be interested in knowing what you think…face or about-face?
Tonight I’m drinking a bottle of Ommegang Fleur De Houblon. I believe Melissa helped pick this out this past weekend during a Julio’s beer run. Honestly, I agreed to buy bottle because the bright yellow label was catchy.
The beer, a 6.8% ABV Belgian pale ale by style, is very unique. The label reads “Golden hue, distinctively floral hops, pleasing complexity, and spicy notes from Ommegang yeast.” That pretty much sums up my review. Golden? Yup. Floral? REALLY floraly. Complex? Sure. Spicy notes? Absolutely.
If you’re into flowery beers, go give this a shot. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I’ll finish the bottle for posterity sake.
